Blood Donor and Blood Donation Motivation Program organized by NRCS Ganabahal SC

12 February 2020 – Nepal Red Cross Society Ganabahal Sub-Chapter with support from National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) and NRCS Central Blood Transfusion Service (CBTS) organized a "Blood Donor and Blood Donation Motivation Program" at Sankata Co-Operative building, Yengal – 21, Kathmandu in which 52 representatives from various organizations, colleges and hospitals participated in the program.

Highlights of the program

The program was hosted by Mr. Bhakta Chandan Barahi, Dy Secretary of NRCS Ganabahal Sub-Chapter with Mr. Amrit Narayan Manandhar, President of NRCS Ganabahal Sub-Chapter delivering welcoming remarks. The program was divided into two sessions in which an open platform for participants to ask queries regarding the presented subjects were held after each session.
In first session facilitator Dr. Rekha Manandhar, Senior Consultant of National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) facilitated about the blood, it's components, usage, eligible criteria for blood donation along with the practice of safer blood transfusion system in context of Nepal where as in second session Dr. Manita Rajkarnikar, Director of NRCS Central Blood Transfusion Service (CBTS) facilitated about the history and  present situation of blood transfusion service in Nepal along with the importance of blood donation, blood donors and the important role played by various organizations in conducting blood donation programs in an effort to minimize the shortage of blood and it's components.

After the ending of each sessions, during open platform altogether 9 participants interacted with the facilitators covering various topics relating to the blood, its management, problems faced by individuals in both normal and emergency situations due to unavailability of blood, proper information technology (IT) and data base management in context of blood transfusion service centers, issues faced while conducting blood donation programs, lack of enhanced technologies and skilled manpower like that of developed countries, price and costing of blood and its components in which the facilitators solved the queries of the participants.

The program was ended with the closing remarks of Mr. Amrit Manandhar, President NRCS Ganabahal Sub-Chapter.
